Puppy Training

K9 Unlimited helps puppies grow into calm, confident family dogs across Ochelata, Bartlesville, and Northeast Oklahoma! Using clear communication and balanced training methods from the Tom Rose School, we focus on age-appropriate skills and habits that last:

  • Name recognition, marker words, and attention to handler
  • Potty/crate routines and alone-time conditioning
  • Sit, Down, Stay, Place, and early Recall games
  • Loose-leash walking and impulse control (leave it, doorways, food)
  • Mouthiness/teething management and chew-toy training
  • Handling for vet/groomer, nail care, brushing, ear/teeth checks
  • Safe socialization to people, dogs, sounds, surfaces, and environments

We offer private lessons, puppy socials, and board-and-train options!

Our Puppy Training

With more than a decade of experience, our team builds puppy programs around real family life. Founder Scott Tarpley graduated from the Tom Rose School for dog training just outside St. Louis, and he has trained his fellow instructor Andrew Northup in these techniques as well. Together, our experienced trainers not only provided effective structured training at our academy, but also regularly coach owners through simple daily routines to keep up progress at home.

We always tailor our training courses to your puppy’s age and temperament and use short, upbeat sessions that fit attention spans. You’ll receive written schedules, socialization checklists, and clear next steps after each lesson.

Foundations & House Skills (8–20 Weeks)

Start with the essentials: consistent potty and feeding schedules, crate comfort (no crying at bedtime), bite-inhibition games, chew management during teething, and alone-time practice to prevent separation issues. We’ll cover safe exercise guidelines, nap needs (puppies need more sleep than many of us realize!), recommended gear (flat collar, harness, long line), and exactly how to handle night outings and early mornings.

Socialization & Confidence Building

We prioritize positive exposures during the early socialization window—new people, sights, sounds, surfaces, and handling—at your puppy’s pace. You’ll learn how to spot “too much” vs. “just right,” navigate normal fear periods, and create calm, curious responses instead of triggering aggression or reactivity. Field trips and controlled setups build resilience without overwhelming your pup.

Obedience & Life Skills

Turn attention into behavior: sit/down/stay that work around distractions, a cheerful recall, polite leash walking, waiting at doors, and settling on a place while family or guests move about. We include resource-guarding prevention (trade games), drop/give, and house rules so your pup grows into a polite adult. You’ll leave with a maintenance plan and milestones for the next stage.
